N729S

Panel Overhaul - Part I

N729S came with a nice set of avionics.  An Aspen EDF1000 Pro, Garmin GNS530W, TruTrack Autopilot, and King KT 76C were installed in 2009 by the previous owner.  This combination will fly any approach, down to minimums with ease.  Add an iPad and an ADS-b receiver with weather and traffic, and N729S was a true cross country traveling machine.  As great as the components were, the installation was fairly lackluster.  Antennae weren't located properly, wiring bundles were a mess, the intercom only worked some of the time, and the airplane still only had one COM radio.  It was time for an overhaul.

Beauty is only skin deep, here is some of the shoddy wiring. This is more common than not in legacy GA aircraft.

I started by removing the instruments, avionics, panels, and all of the wiring.

While measuring the panels to put into CAD, some boxes arrived!

Time to get to work...

The Nav/Strobe lights got new DTM-4 connectors.

The dual GPS antennae got new BNC connectors and a custom fiberglass tray. They will sit at the very top of the fuselage behind the baggage compartment.
