Glasair III

My first ride

Today I took a ride in a Glasair III.  After flying my I for three years, and having ridden in a hot rodded II, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect... acceleration and climb performance.  But, with 300hp I have never seen an altimeter needle move so quickly.  Loitering at 200mph and ATC wants an extra 1000ft?  No problem, pitch up 20 deg and you're there in about 10 seconds.

Thanks Scott!  That's a ride I'll never forget!

The handling was very similar to my I, except lighter in roll.  Scott, the owner, had spades installed to reduce the roll force and the result is impressive.  N540GL was built by Glenn Lawler, a good friend, A&P, I/A and mentor to all things aviation for me.  Glenn worked for Diamond for over a decade and is exceptional at composite construction and repairs.

This bird looks so good it's hard to believe it has been flying since 1990!
