Finger-brake Stand

Recently I scored a great deal on a used Roper Whitney 4ft finger brake, or box and pan brake.  This will allow me to bend corners on up to 16ga thick steel. It came with a rusty old stand made of angle iron. While functionally it was ok, I wanted something a little shorter and nicer.

I made a stand for slip roll and wanted this one to match. The basic design is trapezoidal ends to support the machine on two feet (or casters for the slip roll) with three lateral members to provide stability.

TIG welding takes a lot longer than MIG, but it's good practice.

Here is the basic frame with the adjustable feet installed.

This was one of the pretier welds. The .065 wall welds very nicely.

I filled in the top with 16ga sheet to make a shelf to hold the fingers when they are removed.

I ground down the welds and prepped for paint.

The paint is old Roper Whitney formulation. Sherwin Williams Dimenso Enamel H16 L 19 Dark Blue. It's easy to spray and holds up well.
